The total amount of coins exceeds 21,000,000, 50% of which are premined with the purpose of being distributed to the entire population of Iceland, with distribution initiated at the end of March 2014. The currency is based on Litecoin. Difficulty retargeting occurs once every 8 blocks with no block reward reduction. Auroracoin wallets are available for all major platforms, including Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android.
