Qtum is an ambitious open-source project that aims to get the best of both worlds by employing an altered version of the Bitcoin Core infrastructure and combining it with the omnipotent Ethereum Virtual Machine. Its goal is to establish its place in the DAPP and Smart Contract market and offer businesses an easier way to use blockchain technology and smart contracts to their advantage. It employs a unique PoS consensus protocol and provides a stable environment for the creation of decentralized applications.
Since its inception, it has attracted a lot of attention and several high-rolling investors, including Xu Star, Anthony Di Iorio, and Roger Ver, in spite of the controversy surrounding its founder Patrick Dai, who ran another cryptocurrency under a different name two years before the creation of Qtum (Bitbay as Steven Dai). During its ICO in March 2017, Qtum raised $15.6 million in under 5 days.
